Personal Work.
I recently took a weekend trip with my family down to our Grandparent’s vacation home on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Rarely in on these trips do I find a creative outlet other than the occasional doodle in the sketchbook, but while sitting out on the deck Saturday evening I started experimenting with my camera phone and came up with some interesting images. These were all taken by pointing my iPhone camera through the lens of a spotting scope we keep on the deck. As I was playing around with the strange effects that this caused, a deer walked out of the woods and started swimming across the bay. It was difficult to set the scope up ahead of where the deer would be in the water, then get the phone to focus on it, but I managed to get a few shots of it crossing and coming ashore on the other side.

I can’t say I’m not ashamed, I really should be updating this thing more often. I’ve been hard at work at P’unk Ave though, so that has to count for something. I’ve worked on a few websites and other projects over the past few weeks, but the easiest one to show would be the icons I designed for the Symfony plugins that make up the Apostrophe CMS that P’unk Ave has been developing (and using to build client sites). They’re simple and straightforward, tying into the visual language of both Apostrophe and P’unk Ave.
Click the image to see them in context on the Symfony site.

This stage of the project was small, as it only affects the symfony website, but hopefully down the road these will be implemented into the apostrophe website and other venues. Either way it was fun to do some branding for a change. As much as I enjoy web design, I love the process of developing a concept, sketching, and refining that goes into print design and branding. You do a bit of sketching/concepting for the web, but it’s either wire-frames or banners and icons, fun, but not quite as involved.
I’m done trying to convince myself i need to update this thing all the time, too much pressure for something that should come naturally. Don’t expect a ton of updates, but when something worth posting about happens, I’ll put it up.

Archived the ‘ol blog. I decided that with the site redesign, and the move from college world to real world, I should start fresh with the blog. I was also really unhappy with quality of my posts. I’m going to try to do one major post a week and see how that goes.
With the redesign, I moved my portfolio site to the wonderfully designed Cargo CMS from Indexhibit. It’s nice because although I like building web pages and fiddling with html and css, for my portfolio I want something really consistent and easy to update. With cargo, they give you the interface to update your portfolio along with a few really nice themes, and they give you the ability to edit the css and some of the html (just enough to mess around with). So far I’m pretty happy, now I just need to make some new work to fill it up.
